Using modular letterforms made in Adobe Illustrator, the Wave Alphabet is structured to evoke and communicate the word “Wave”. Taking inspiration from the rippled and foamy nature of ocean waves washing up on the beach, the idea was finding a system that could stretch out letterforms in a manner that could capture the unpredictable nature of water. The method chosen to physically produce the letter forms was watercolor, as the paint was brushed and splattered onto canvas paper to exemplify a wave’s essence and appearance.
